About the position

Job Summary:

The Medical Officer will be based in Kakamega, Kenya and will be reporting to the Chief Consultant Pathologist. The medical officer is responsible for diagnosing and treating a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses among the adult population, promoting preventive care, patient education, and coordination of care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall proactive clinical leadership to the medical centre staff to ensure timely provision and delivery quality patient care.
  • Participate in the strategic planning of the medical centre by developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the clinical care outcome impact of key clinical and service delivery processes.
  • Be responsible for oversight in management of critical incidents, safe prescribing and quality improvement activities as required.
  • Attend to patients’ medical needs, diagnose their illnesses, and prescribe medicines and other therapeutic interventions in consultation rooms at the medical centre.
  • Provide medical advice, counselling, health education and control measures to patients in the medical facility in order to prevent spread of diseases and injuries.
  • Implement best practice clinical and patient care related policies and procedures in the medical centre.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Valid Practice License.
  • Basic life support and Advanced Cardiac life support certification.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • At least four years of working experience as a Medical Officer in a busy facility.
